Altus is the wine capital of Arkansas; The heart of the scenic wine country and Arkansas River Valley. Free tastings and tours are avallable daily at the region's award-winning wineries. Points of interest include the historic St. Mary's Catholic Church with its panoramic view; historically preserved downtown with unique dining and museum; historic hiking trails; and a city park featuring the Altus Coal Miners Monument, Owl Monument, Veterans Memorial, quarter-mile fitness trail, playground, picnic facilities, band stage and historic gazebo.
